Peace is often portrayed as an ideal state – but in reality, it’s a fragile structure of relations that must be constantly reestablished.
In this project, I tried to use the simplest visual element – type – to express an idea of peace.
“WIHR” is a word I invented, combining “Wir” (we) and “Ihr” (you) in German. It doesn’t exist in the language, but that’s the point:
It blurs the boundary between sides – between us and them. That ambiguity is the space I wanted to explore – beyond symbols, beyond certainties.
At the center of the project is a poster showing “WIHR”, set in my digital revival of Caslon Doric.
This typeface historically marked a shift from decorative elitist styles to functional, public communication.
It is simple, readable, and designed to serve expression, not authority.
This project is not a definition of peace.
It is a question: If language structure itself becomes expression, can we imagine new forms of community – without rigid lines, without fixed identities?
“WIHR” is not a side. It’s a space in-between – fragile, unresolved, and open.
A typographic gesture.
A linguistic experiment.
