Schrift als Werkzeug – Aufklärung von A bis Z
This booklet is built around my revival of the Caslon Doric typeface. It presents the typeface in use while also reconsidering typography as a form of tool. The publication includes reflections by several philosophers on the idea of the “tool” — how tools shape human action and influence the way we understand the world. Typography, in this sense, is not only a medium of information, but also something that shapes our habits of reading, perception, and thinking.
这本小册子围绕我复刻的 Caslon Doric 字体展开，既展示字体的实际应用，也试图将字体重新理解为一种“工具”。其中收录了几位哲学家关于“工具”的思考：工具如何影响人的行动方式，以及我们理解世界的方式。而字体本身也不仅仅是信息媒介，它同样塑造着我们的阅读习惯、认知结构与思维方式。
Dieses Booklet basiert auf meiner Rekonstruktion der Schrift Caslon Doric. Es zeigt die Schrift in ihrer Anwendung und versteht Typografie zugleich als eine Form von Werkzeug. Das Heft versammelt Gedanken verschiedener Philosoph:innen über das „Werkzeug“ — darüber, wie Werkzeuge menschliches Handeln und unser Verständnis der Welt beeinflussen. Typografie ist dabei nicht nur ein Informationsträger, sondern prägt auch unsere Lesegewohnheiten, Wahrnehmung und Denkweise.
